Handcrafted, from Hive to Home
Traditional beeswax chandlery is the alchemy of turning flowers into light. Warm, luxurious illumination that celebrates your home. Our artisanal candles are hand-crafted in our studio in the Pacific Northwest, using only pure, wild Canadian beeswax, filtered through clay and charcoal to ensure quality.
Beeswax is both sustainable and protects biodiversity; a natural, renewable resource, sourced from apiaries throughout British Columbia and Alberta. The colour of the wax changes season to season, depending on what flowers the bees gather pollen and nectar from - to feed the hive. As the bees move from flower to flower they pollinate our planet.
Our candles are a treasured gift of aroma, form, and an indulgent, intimate light.
Please remove all packaging and labels before burning, and trim the wick a quarter of an inch.
Please never leave a flame unattended; always keep your burning candle in sight.
Maintaining A Traditional Beeswax Candle
Trim the wick before, during and after each burn to a quarter of an inch, slightly longer for tapered candles.
As the candle burns down, gently 'hug' the melted wax inwards, to contain the wax pool.
Generally, burn each candle one hour for every inch that the candle is wide; for example a three inch wide candle is best burnt for three hours to 'open' up the candle and burn the wax efficiently.
To extinguish, smartly press the wick into the wax pool, then straighten the wick and trim to a quarter of an inch. This will not only ensure the absence of smoke but will re-coat the wick for the next lighting.
Bloom is a whitish patina that may form over time. It is a sign of purity in the natural beeswax. This is the natural rising of minerals to the surface, and may be wiped away with a lint-free cloth.
Keep candle groupings well spaced; too many candles too close will generate too much heat and cause neighbouring candles to melt.
Never put essential oils into a molten wax pool; use an oil diffuser with a candle instead.
Beeswax has been used as a household aid for centuries; poured into gaps in wooden floors to prevent squeaking, rubbed on draws for an easier glide, drawn onto saw blades to prevent binding and rust, and even on metal zippers.
Bees Wax Works candles are best burned in a draft free environment, to ensure a dripless candle. A flickering flame may indicate a draft.
